‘Be Careful With My Heart’ is addictive enough on just the surface level. Bright, jazzy guitar chords, walking basslines and tight drums support a fantastic lead vocal and, towards the end of the track, a psychedelic guitar solo. However, lyrically things are much deeper. “I want to use this single as an opportunity to connect and expand my community,” Melanie? explains. “[I want to] spread messages of love/togetherness while raising money for three causes that share our mission of unity through art; Unison Benevolent Fund, Black Women In Motion, and Advance.” This might be just her third release, but it’s proof that there is a lot of incredibly moving, and simultaneously funky, music still to come from Melanie?. -Dan Peeke
